Realtime Kinematics

Realtime Kinematics recalculates the selected object's public-element model state at a short cadence and exposes WGS84 position, inertial speed, ground-track speed, heading and vertical rate with explicit element-quality context.

This panel turns the selected satellite's orbit model into movement numbers: position, altitude, speed, direction and how quickly altitude is changing.

Kinematics answers: where is the model satellite, how fast is it moving, and which direction is it going? These are calculations, not messages sent by the satellite.

Operator & learner steps

  1. Select a satellite or enter a valid NORAD ID.
  2. Check element quality before interpreting motion.
  3. Compare state time with element epoch.
  4. Clear selection when finished.
KEY CONCEPTS

What the terms mean

Inertial speed

Speed in an Earth-centered inertial frame.

Ground-track speed

How fast the modeled subpoint moves across Earth's surface.

Vertical rate

Instantaneous rate of altitude change in the model.
